Sydney squirms in my arms, and I laugh when she bites my lip hard enough to draw blood.

“What the hell was that?!” Her fists are balled at her sides. “I didn’t say you could kiss me!”

I wipe the droplet of blood away, my eyes lazily roaming her curves, pausing briefly on her peaked nipples. Fuck, she has a great rack. She briefly glances down at her chest. “Well, that’s an awfully rapey thing to say. How do you know I’m not cold?”

“Because the thermostat’s set to seventy degrees, and you’re wearing a thick hoodie. Although... not thick enough to hide how badly you want me, is it?”

She’s lying through her teeth. Her cheeks are flushed with arousal, as is the exposed patch of skin near her collarbone where the zipper parts. Her thirsty gaze hasn’t left my body since she walked through the front door. If there was any question whether or not she’d consent, I would’ve never kissed her. If anyone is overly cautious about that shit, it’s definitely me. Sydney may be pissed, but I’ve zero doubt she fucking wants me.

I laugh mockingly. “Liar.”

She releases the cutest little growl. “I am not lying, asshole!”

“Prove it,” I challenge. “Kiss me and then try telling me you don’t want me. A kiss doesn’t lie, Syd.” I flick my finger between us. “Not with chemistry like this.”

Her malachite eyes narrow. “Check your ego, bud. Don’t confuse my disdain for attraction.”

I wonder if she’d lose the attitude if she knew it only made my dick harder.

I take a step closer. “Ah, but therein lies the problem. The line between lust and hate tends to get a little blurry sometimes.” I take another step, chuckling darkly. “Ask Kingston and Jazzy. They wrote the book on that shit.”

She gasps when I run the bridge of my nose along the side of her neck. “Bentley, what are you doing?”

My tongue darts out, and I smile against Sydney’s skin when she shivers. “Proving you wrong.”

She pulls back and waits until I’m looking her in the eye. “Don’t think for one second I’m giving up.”

“Okay, baby, you’re not giving up. Ten-four.” I smile.

“Don’t placate me, you ass!”

“I’m going to kiss you now, Syd.” I lean closer, cupping her cheek in my palm. “Then, I’m going to make you scream. If you don’t want this, say the word right the fuck now.” When the only sound coming out of her are her soft breaths, I add, “Three... two... on—”

Before I can end my countdown, Sydney lifts up on her toes and presses her mouth against mine. I don’t give her a chance to waver—I lick the seam of her lips until she opens for me.
